Botox® injections

Botox® is the commercial name for botulinum toxin. The value of this toxin lies in its action on nerve endings, leading to a more or less significant paralysis of the muscle. Some expression lines are primarily caused by facial muscle movements. The horizontal forehead lines, the glabellar line between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes are formed exactly because of repeated muscle contractions. Thus, by limiting the movement of specific facial muscles with the botulinum toxin, wrinkles progressively smooth out.

By reducing wrinkles caused by muscle contractions, also called “expression lines”, Botox® effectively acts on:

• The horizontal lines and fine wrinkles of the forehead,
• The “glabellar” or frown line located between the eyebrows,
• Crow’s feet,
• Fine lines around the contours of the eyes.

However,  Botox® injections will have no effect on wrinkles caused by loss of elasticity and skin laxity such as nasolabial folds. For these, other aesthetic medical treatments are possible, such as hyaluronic acid injections..

Finally, Botox® has often been criticized for giving a frozen look to the face. This was often the case in the past when the injected dose of botulinum protein was too high. But today, after more than 50 years of experience, practices have evolved and Botox® is administered in micro-injections with surgical precision. Thus, the face retains all its expressiveness.

Botox® injections are very simple and quick to perform. However, they are still a medical act carried out on the face. That’s why they are entrusted to our surgeon, qualified in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery.

• Step 1: Preliminary medical consultation
• Step 2: Injection session lasting 10 to 30 minutes depending on the number of areas to be treated.

An anesthetic cream is applied for the most sensitive people. After the session, the face usually shows some redness, easy to hide under a bit of makeup. Sometimes, swelling may occur, but again, nothing to worry about: it resolves itself within a few days. No social exclusion is to be expected.
